RESOURCES
for students and teachers

These are some of the activities I do to prepare my students to create and write their scrapbook entries.

ARRIVAL:

1. Have the students answer this worksheet as they use the internet to find the answers.

2. Have the students as a class perform the following Reader's Theater.

WORKER:

The students create a Bill of Rights for the immigrant worker after reading primary sources.

SCHOOL:

The students will role play what the immigrants experienced in an American School.

COMMUNITY:

Students will read primary sources about life in the neighborhood

One of the activities I do, Price Is Right, is to have the kids examine the cost of living in the year 1900. It is fun to also have the students figure out whether the price of a product in the past is expensive or not. Now you can answer the question, "Was that (price) a lot back then?" with a simple mathematical formula, using the Consumer Price Index.
